Instructions for Authors

The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry welcomes submissions from researchers, academicians, and industry professionals worldwide. To maintain the highest standards of scientific communication, authors are requested to carefully follow the instructions outlined below before submitting their manuscripts.

1. Article Types

We consider the following categories of submissions:

  • Original Research Articles – Comprehensive studies presenting novel findings in medicinal chemistry and related fields.
  • Review Articles – Critical evaluations of recent advances, summarizing current knowledge and providing future perspectives.
  • Mini-Reviews – Focused discussions on emerging concepts, specialized methodologies, or niche research areas.
  • Short Communications – Concise reports of significant findings or preliminary results.
  • Perspectives & Commentaries – Expert viewpoints on ongoing debates, trends, or future directions in medicinal chemistry.

2. Manuscript Preparation

General Formatting

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English.
  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spacing, and standard margins.
  • Include page numbers and line numbers for ease of review.

Structure of Manuscripts - A standard manuscript should include the following sections:

  1. Title Page
    • Title of the article (concise and informative)
    • Full names of all authors with affiliations
    • Corresponding author’s contact details (email, phone, postal address)
    • ORCID iDs (optional but encouraged)
  2. Abstract
    • A structured summary (150–250 words) highlighting objectives, methods, key results, and conclusions.
    • Include 4–6 keywords for indexing.
  3. Introduction
    • State the research background, rationale, and objectives.
  4. Materials and Methods
    • Provide sufficient detail to allow reproducibility.
    • For chemical synthesis, describe reaction conditions, yields, and characterization methods.
    • For biological or pharmacological studies, specify assay protocols, controls, and statistical analyses.
  5. Results
    • Present findings clearly, supported by appropriate tables, figures, and spectra.
    • Avoid repetition between text and data representations.
  6. Discussion
    • Interpret results in the context of existing literature.
    • Highlight novelty, significance, and limitations.
  7. Conclusion
    • Concise summary of findings and implications.
  8. Acknowledgments
    • Mention funding sources, institutional support, and contributors not listed as authors.
  9. References
    • Use the Vancouver style (numbered citations in text with corresponding reference list).
    • Include DOI numbers where available.

3. Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Material

  • Figures must be of high resolution (minimum 300 dpi).
  • Tables should be editable (not images) and numbered sequentially.
  • Supplementary files (datasets, spectra, computational details) may be submitted to support the main text.

4. Ethical Considerations

  • Studies involving human subjects or animals must include approval from an appropriate ethics committee.
  • All chemical compounds must be handled in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Authors must disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.
  • Plagiarism, data fabrication, and redundant publication are strictly prohibited.

5. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts should be submitted via the journal’s online submission page.
  • Authors must ensure that their submission is original and has not been published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere.
  • A cover letter should accompany the manuscript, summarizing its significance and confirming compliance with ethical standards.

6. Peer Review and Publication

  • All submissions undergo initial editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review.
  • Reviewers evaluate manuscripts for originality, scientific rigor, clarity, and relevance.
  • Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts based on reviewer feedback.
  • Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, typesetting, and online publication.
