Instructions for Authors

The Journal of Biomedical Engineering (JBE) welcomes original, high-quality contributions from researchers, clinicians, and industry professionals in the field of biomedical engineering. To ensure smooth and timely processing of manuscripts, authors are requested to carefully follow the guidelines below before submission.

1. General Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished work and not under consideration in any other journal.
  • All authors must have made a significant contribution to the work and approved the final version for submission.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the journal’s online submission system.

2. Manuscript Types

The journal accepts the following categories of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles - Comprehensive reports of novel experimental or theoretical work.
  • Review Articles - Summarized critical evaluations of current knowledge and future directions.
  • Short Communications - Brief but significant findings requiring rapid publication.
  • Case Studies/Reports - Unique case findings with technical or clinical importance.
  • Technical Notes - Descriptions of new methods, techniques, or software tools.
  • Perspectives/Commentaries - Scholarly opinions or discussions on emerging topics.

3. Manuscript Preparation

File Format

  • Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word or LaTeX format.
  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced text with numbered pages.

Structure

A research article should generally follow this structure:

  1. Title Page - Title, author names, affiliations, corresponding author’s contact details.
  2. Abstract - Concise summary (200–300 words) highlighting objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.
  3. Keywords – 4-6 relevant terms for indexing.
  4. Introduction - Background, rationale, and objectives.
  5. Materials and Methods - Detailed methodology ensuring reproducibility.
  6. Results - Clear presentation of findings with figures and tables.
  7. Discussion - Interpretation, significance, and comparison with existing studies.
  8. Conclusion - Key takeaways and future perspectives.
  9. Acknowledgments (if applicable).
  10. Conflicts of Interest Statement.
  11. References - Formatted as per the journal’s style (APA/Harvard/Vancouver; specify style here).

4. Figures and Tables

  • Figures should be submitted in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Tables should be editable (not images) and numbered sequentially.
  • Captions must be clear and descriptive.

5. References

  • Authors should use a consistent citation style throughout the manuscript.
  • Only published or accepted works should be cited.
  • Reference management tools such as EndNote, Zotero, or Mendeley are recommended.

6. Ethical Considerations

  • Studies involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and include approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Committee.
  • Animal studies must follow international guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.
  • Authors must disclose conflicts of interest and sources of funding support.

7. Plagiarism Policy

The journal has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism. All manuscripts will be screened using advanced plagiarism detection software prior to review.

8. Peer Review Process

  • All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.
  • Authors may suggest potential reviewers, but the final decision rests with the Editorial Board.
  • Review decisions will be communicated as Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.

9. Article Processing Charges (APC)

  • As an open access journal, a publication fee (APC) will be charged upon acceptance to cover editorial and production costs.
  • Waivers and discounts may be available for authors from low-resource countries (details provided on the APC page).

10. Copyright and Licensing

  • Authors retain copyright and publish under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), allowing unrestricted distribution with proper attribution.

11. Submission Checklist

Before submitting, ensure that:

  • The manuscript is prepared according to journal guidelines.
  • Figures and tables are properly labeled and uploaded.
  • References are correctly formatted.
  • Ethical approval and conflict of interest statements are included.
