Peer Review Process

The SCICONX Journal of Advanced Materials & Engineering (JAME) upholds a rigorous, transparent, and ethically grounded peer-review system designed to ensure that every published manuscript meets the highest standards of scientific accuracy, methodological reliability, and disciplinary relevance. Our review workflow combines the strengths of expert evaluation, constructive communication, and editorial oversight to maintain academic integrity and enhance research quality.

JAME follows a double-blind peer review model, where both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the evaluation process to eliminate potential biases and ensure fair and impartial assessment.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Once a manuscript is submitted through the journal’s online system, it undergoes a preliminary evaluation conducted by the Editorial Office and the Editor-in-Chief. This stage includes:

  • Scope verification: ensuring the manuscript aligns with the journal’s thematic areas such as advanced materials, composites, nanotechnology, structural engineering, or mechanical innovation.
  • Format and completeness check: verifying that the manuscript adheres to JAME’s author guidelines, contains essential components, and meets ethical requirements.
  • Plagiarism and originality screening: using advanced similarity-detection tools to ensure that the submission represents authentic and unpublished work.
  • Basic quality assessment: determining whether the study demonstrates sufficient novelty, scientific soundness, and potential contribution to the field.

Manuscripts that fail the initial screening may be returned to authors for revision or declined without external review.

2. Assignment to Section Editor

Manuscripts that pass the initial check are assigned to an Associate Editor / Section Editor with relevant subject expertise. The Section Editor is responsible for:

  • Evaluating the manuscript’s scientific relevance
  • Identifying suitable peer reviewers
  • Overseeing communication between reviewers and the editorial team
  • Making informed recommendations based on reviews

This ensures that submissions are handled by experts who understand the manuscript’s domain and technical depth.

3. Reviewer Selection and Invitation

The Section Editor invites two to three independent reviewers who possess expertise related to the manuscript’s core subject. Reviewer selection follows strict criteria:

  • Proven experience and publications in the relevant field
  • No conflicts of interest with the authors or institutions
  • Ability to provide objective, high-quality evaluations within a defined timeline

Reviewers who accept the invitation are granted access to the anonymized manuscript and the detailed review guidelines.

4. Double-Blind Peer Review

JAME uses a double-blind system, ensuring that:

  • Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors
  • Authors do not know the identity of reviewers

This approach reduces personal, institutional, and geographic bias.

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

  • Originality and significance of the research
  • Scientific and technical soundness
  • Clarity of methodology, data quality, and reproducibility
  • Appropriateness of analysis and interpretation of results
  • Contribution to the field of materials and engineering sciences
  • Structure, clarity, and presentation quality

Reviewers provide:

  • A structured evaluation report
  • Confidential comments to the editors
  • Constructive suggestions for improvement
  • A recommendation: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject

5. Editorial Decision

Based on reviewer reports, the Section Editor formulates a recommendation for the Editor-in-Chief, who makes the final decision. Possible outcomes include:

A. Accept

The manuscript is ready for publication with minimal or no edits.

B. Minor Revision

Authors are asked to address small issues without re-review.

C. Major Revision

Substantial improvements are required; the revised manuscript undergoes a second round of peer review.

D. Reject

The manuscript is not suitable for publication, either due to major flaws or misalignment with the journal’s scope.

All decisions are supported by detailed feedback, ensuring transparency and fairness.

6. Revision and Resubmission

If revisions are required, authors must:

  • Address each reviewer comment thoroughly
  • Prepare a point-by-point response document
  • Highlight changes in the revised manuscript

The editorial team may send major revisions back to the original reviewers to verify the adequacy of the improvements.

7. Final Acceptance and Technical Editing

Once accepted, the manuscript undergoes:

  • Technical editing for grammar, formatting, and structure
  • Typesetting and reference accuracy checks
  • Proofreading and author proof approval

This ensures the final article meets professional publication standards.

8. Ethical Considerations

JAME follows strict ethical guidelines aligned with:

  • COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics)
  • ICMJE recommendations
  • SCICONX Publishing’s Editorial Integrity Framework

We maintain zero tolerance for plagiarism, data manipulation, duplicate submission, authorship misconduct, or conflicts of interest.

9. Estimated Timeline

While timelines may vary by manuscript type and reviewer availability, JAME strives to ensure:

  • Initial Decision: within 2-3 days
  • Peer Review Completion: 14-21 days
  • Final Decision Post-Revisions: 5-7 days
  • Online Publication: within 7–10 days of acceptance

Our goal is to conduct fast, fair, and high-quality peer review without compromising scientific scrutiny.

10. Commitment to Transparent and High-Quality Review

The SCICONX Journal of Advanced Materials & Engineering is committed to:

  • Enhancing reviewer–author communication
  • Upholding academic integrity
  • Ensuring fair decisions based solely on scientific merit
  • Supporting authors with constructive, actionable feedback
  • Maintaining confidentiality throughout the review process

Through a balanced, ethical, and expert-driven review model, JAME ensures that every published article reflects excellence and contributes meaningfully to the advancement of materials and engineering research.
