This guide outlines the unique responsibilities, expectations, and ethical commitments expected from Editors serving the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Editors at JPS are entrusted with:

2.1. Initial Manuscript Screening

  • Evaluate submissions for thematic relevance, scientific soundness, and ethical compliance.
  • Filter out manuscripts with significant deficiencies (plagiarism, off-topic scope, lack of originality) before review.
  • Recommend pre-review improvements where necessary to assist the peer-review process.

2.2. Reviewer Assignment and Coordination

  • Select peer reviewers with appropriate expertise, balancing early-career and experienced scholars.
  • Ensure reviewers are unbiased and have no conflict of interest with authors or content.
  • Monitor review quality and timelines to facilitate a structured and efficient review workflow.

2.3. Decision Making

  • Analyze reviewers’ feedback alongside your professional judgment to arrive at a fair decision.
  • Accept, request revisions, or reject manuscripts with clear reasoning.
  • Encourage authors to respond constructively to feedback, especially in revision rounds.

Editors must:

  • Treat all manuscript information as confidential, not to be disclosed or discussed.
  • Avoid processing manuscripts if any personal, financial, or academic conflicts exist.
  • Act upon ethical issues such as authorship disputes, research misconduct, or data irregularities by consulting SCICONX’s Publication Ethics Board.
